Kids First Association is operated by a volunteer Board of Directors who represents the three counties within our organization. The Board is made up of three members from each county (for nine members) and a Chairperson.
Every effort is made to ensure that parent participants make up a majority of the membership of the Board of Directors. In the past we have had 100% current and past participants make up the Board membership. We have also had representation from Community partners sit at the Board level.
The Regional Board of Directors operates as a Policy Governance board. In this model, the Board's function is to set overall policies and direction of the organization. They are responsible for the result not the means that is left up to staff employed by the organization. Therefore, the Board is not responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization; instead they are kept up-to-date on the operations by the Executive Director. The Board employs the Executive Director to oversee the daily administration and functioning of Kids First Association. Board members set limits within which the Executive Director operates.
The Executive Director is responsible and accountable to the Board of Directors for the overall administration and functioning of the organization. The Executive Director works with the Board of Directors to ensure that the work undertaken moves the organization closer to its organizational goals. He/she ensures that the organization operates within the policies and procedures outlined in this manual.
The Executive Directors reports directly to the Regional Board of Directors.
The Regional Financial Administrator is responsible for the administration of the financial system for Kids First Association. He/she works collaboratively with the Executive Director and Program Coordinators to ensure comprehensive financial functioning of Kids First Association. The Regional Financial Administrator reports directly to the Executive Director.
Program Coordinators are responsible for the day-to-day program and administrative operation for the county and project for which they are employed. (i.e. CAP-C Coordinator - Antigonish is responsible for CAP-C related programs and administration in Antigonish County). The program Coordinators are often the direct service provider who develop, modify and facilitate programming. Through the multi-disciplinary approach of our organization county staff work together as a team, and with their counterparts in the other two counties to reach the goals established by the organization. Program Coordinators report directly to the Executive Director.
Other staff and volunteers are responsible for a variety of program deliver and support within the organization. These individuals fulfill a number of important roles within our organization such as program assistants, outreach support, cleaners, childcare workers and facilitators. They are directly responsible to the Program Coordinators within the county that they are working.
